Limited Edition Digital Archival Print

“Cup Cakes and High Heels: It’s a Juggling Act (Thanks a lot, Frances Benjamin Johnston)” is part of a series exploring stereotypes and historical labels placed on women. The work uses a tongue-in-cheek approach to question expectations of women’s roles in the 21st century.

Referencing Frances Benjamin Johnston’s 1896 self-portrait and her critique of Victorian-era gender roles, Moore reflects on how expectations of women continue to shift. The work considers the often blurred boundaries between roles such as wife, mother, caregiver, and professional, and the pressures of modern expectations that women can “have it all.”
